Good morning! Black coffee is indeed a clear liquid and can be consumed (without milk, cream, sugar) safely up to 2 hrs before surgery. Do not deprive your patients of their morning coffee.

For those protesting social distancing (doubt they would read this) - a small group of my friends got together for lunch 10 days ago: 1 is on a vent, another admitted to a regular floor bed, 5 others are COVID + at home. You can be asymptomatic and have COVID19

It is minor epistaxis, they said. Narrator: It was not minor epistaxis This is the cast of the esophagus made of blood 😳

If you are ever unable to reach the hospital pharmacist, order IV Tylenol and they will show up 5 seconds later! Thx for attending my TED Talk

Today was one of the hardest days of my life as an ICU attending. Sometimes all you can do for a patient is to buy them their favorite donut. Some days medicine fails.

I encourage everyone who provides ECMO care to think deeply about this slide. Unfortunately, I do not know the person who created it to give them credit.

Day 4 win update: Today we decannulated our 1st COVID19 VV-ECMO patient. The little wins are super exciting.

Hi, I’m an ICU doctor. I don’t know much about rashes but I’m sure I know more about rashes than you do about ventilators! When someone asks you a question, either be kind, or just don’t say anything

I just had to tell the family of a patient that is my age and on ECMO for COVID that we have done everything possible for the patient and there is nothing else to do and this is the end. It is devastating. For them and for us. Please wear your masks.

My 98 yo grandma was diagnosed with COVID today and is not doing well. I have told my family that she is a DNR/DNI. All I ask for is that she does not suffer. I wish my aunts and uncles could understand this 🤦🏻‍♂️💔
