- Here’s a clip of one of the A-10s landing yesterday on M-28 near Shingleton as part of the National Guard’s #NorthernAgility exercises.
00:00 - Some images of the ongoing US-2 snow clearing work. Crews hope to have the highway reopened later today.
- @MichiganDOT Director Paul Ajegba toured the $9.6 million US-41 rebuilding project in Houghton this morning, where crews are making good progress during the second year of construction.
00:00 - The Mackinac Bridge remains closed to all traffic due to hazardous falling ice conditions. Currently there is no timetable for reopening. Avoid the bridge area to allow maintenance vehicles to operate. The bridge will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so.
- Funnel cloud: MDOTs Creig Lambert, working on US-41, saw this waterspout a few miles NE around 2:45 this afternoon.
- An A-10 taxis and turns on M-28 as part of Operation Northern Agility west of Shingleton today.
00:00 - Transportation #TBT: A Michigan State Hwy. Dept. snowblower on duty in 1947 and a (slightly) newer model at work this week on US-2 after the blizzard. MDOT's St. Ignace Garage keeps this vintage 1952 Oshkosh unit in great working condition. The blower unit alone packs 350 HP!
- Lake Superior nearly frozen over: 90 percent+. Only the fifth time in the last 20 years the big lake has exceeded 90 percent ice cover. In 2014 and 2015, ice covered more than 95 percent of the lake. The last time Superior froze completely was 1996. NOAA satellite pic from 3-7
