It’s that time of year, shark season is upon us. Now would be a good time to brush up on your ID skills. This video will help you distinguish between white sharks and basking sharks. Remember if you see a shark please use @sharktivity to report it. youtu.be/kWRuFWuz7NA?si…

One of the hardest things to communicate to people is how massive white sharks can be. Until you see one in person, it’s hard to appreciate the girth which may be more impressive than length. These photos from yesterday, with the whale for scale, do help put it into perspective.

Fantastic basking shark footage from Ireland. @BaskingIrish
This is like a scene from Jaws,

Several sharks sighted today off MA including one enormous individual feeding on a dead humpback whale. The two others seem tiny in comparison. One of the smaller ones is towing a recently deployed tag. Stay tuned for more on the big shark.

Lots of anxiety about sharks right now resulting in a lot of sightings being reported. Here's a reminder that not every fin you see belongs to a white shark or even a shark for that matter. The main culprit in misidentifications is the basking shark as seen in this comparison....

With the warmer weather, more people are heading to the ocean and shark sightings are starting to increase. The majority have been basking sharks but there have been a few white sharks too. Can you tell the difference? Here’s a cheat sheet to help you tell them apart.

Whale sharks are the biggest fish in the ocean, and they are beautifully majestically creatures. This one swimming in bioluminescent algae looks like its swimming with the stars! (📽️Imgr Hauntologist2)

17 yrs ago today a white shark got stuck in a salt pond on Naushon Island. I remember thinking how much it reminded me of the scene in JAWS when the shark enters the pond and the irony of the fact we were only a few miles away from where it was filmed.

On this day 17 yrs ago, our efforts to free the Naushon white shark continued. The shark moved north of the Nonamessett Rd bridge giving us hope she’d exit thru Hadley’s Harbor. This is one of my favorite photos because it sums up the whole situation in one frame. #SharkInThePond

Oct. 2, 2004. Although the white shark was finally moved out of the West Gutter of Naushon Island yesterday, it is now stuck in Lackey's Bay literally yards from the freedom of Vineyard Sound but blocked by shoals & boulder fields. Back to the drawing board #sharkinthepond

Whenever I forget my camera I see the most remarkable things. Had to make due with the cellphone this evening checking out the surf with @GregSkomal at Coast Guard Beach, Eastham.

The humpback whale show continues off Plymouth. They were so close at one point the grass got in my way.

Two years ago today I saw this seal escape a white shark off #ManometPt. It survived & I saw it again last Nov all healed. #FlashbackFriday
