    I know there is a lot of sombre news right now so here is very happy news. I have just been awarded an @ace_national grant to start an imprint publishing dual language mother tongue books for children displaced by conflict. It will be called Pineapple Lane. Can't believe it.

    MASSIVE NEWS! We started Little Toller in a global recession so we thought we'd open a shop in the middle of a pandemic! It will be a modest beginning, but in time we will support the very best in nature writing, the best small indie presses and we shall sell our own books.

    I had a very moving experience in the shop yesterday. A lady came in who had ordered a book, she didn’t remember the title, the author or her name. I looked through our order book and figured it out, I told her she was called Madeleine and she said that was a nice name.

    I’m so busy with work I feel bad about my children I think they barely recognise me anymore, so when my daughter Lily came into the kitchen at supper time this made my heart sing. A barn owl made of flowers, petals and bark.

    Bookshop progress. We’ve been flat out all day starting to fill up the shelves. SO much still to do. Need to sort the indie press table out that’s tomorrow’s job and waiting on heaps more books to arrive. But feeling really happy tonight.

    No words right now. We’ll open on Monday after I’m done with the school run about 8.30am and we’ll close on Wednesday evening!! No point having opening hours! Hopefully see some of you in our lovely shop. I’m really proud of it!

    It’s hard work being a bookseller in a small market town in January just glad it’s almost February although I suspect that’s going to be a tough month too. Still incredibly happy to have our little shop, Adrian told me the other day that we made a modest profit in year one! 💚

    Sorry ( though not that sorry ) we're not participating in Black Friday, never have & never will. It goes against everything we believe in, we won't be adding to that noise today, instead a BIG shout out to all indie publishers, authors & bookshops who bring joy to our lives.

    In my fathers library and probably his most treasured books are every New Naturalist ever published except for number 71. Such an amazing and iconic collection of books. #BookTwitter
