1/2: We are deeply concerned by news from over the weekend of a solicitor being removed from a court building by police whilst giving advice to a client. A key principle of our legal system is the right of a citizen to get independent legal advice without police interference...

Our President, @amanda_millar has called on people with a public platform to "reflect carefully on the language they use, and respect the rule of law and the role of the legal profession." lawscot.org.uk/news-and-eventโ€ฆ
Text and image. Image of Amanda Millar wearing black shirt and brown blazer looking at camera with serious face. Text says The principle of an independent legal system and respect for the rule of law are pillars of our democracy of which Scots can be rightly proud. While emotions can run high, it is important that in the heat of debate this fundamental aspect of our society continues to be respected and held dear. Every person with a public platform, whether in our parliament or elsewhere, should reflect carefully on the language they use, and respect the rule of law and the role of the legal profession. Amanda Millar, President on maintaining respect for the rule of law in public debate.

Thanks for tagging us to bring this to our attention. The behaviour described is absolutely not what we would expect from a Scottish solicitor and Iโ€™ve asked a colleague to contact @MrJohnNicolson to follow up.
