In the budget last year, my government made the tough but fair decision to apply VAT to private schools. The Tories opposed it. Reform opposed it. Today, because of that choice, we have announced the largest investment in affordable housing in a generation.

It’s unacceptable to take children out of school to campaign on behalf of unions. You can’t decry school absence & then enable it. Children are not tools for political activism. Bridget Phillipson must investigate this immediately or show union loyalty comes first.

If reports are true the Education Secretary is set to announce a lower-level qualification aimed at white working-class pupils. That’s watering down standards for some of our most deprived children. If that’s the plan, soft bigotry of low expectations is back and it’s an insult.

The Education Secretary hadn’t read her own Bill, or didn’t understand it. She insisted in the House of Commons that pay wasn’t capped and she’s now been forced to admit it is. Unions clearly wrote the policy and now it is all unravelling.

Confirmation: Labour don’t count primary school teachers as real teachers. Why? Because their numbers have dropped, so they’ve quietly moved the goalposts on their manifesto pledge to hire 6,500 new teachers. Another broken promise, leaving our children shortchanged once again.
