As senior director of the WH Situation Room, I managed POTUS head-of-state calls. So, what light can I shed on the Trump-promised phone transcript? /1

My response to the ⁦@WSJ⁩ editors: As a federal employee i couldn’t accept any gift worth more than $20 and no more than $50 per year from the same source. And we were to refuse any gift if there were even an appearance of inappropriateness. wsj.com/articles/clare…

I’ve heard words like this before. In my 32 yr intelligence career. Usually from foreign dictators and autocrats. Not from a US President. Where are the words of healing?
JUST IN: President Trump unloads on the nation's governors on a call, calls on them to step up enforcement: "You have to dominate, if you don’t dominate you’re wasting your time. They’re going to run over you, you’re going to look like a bunch of jerks. You have to dominate."

First off: unless this administration has changed procedures in place for many years, there are no WH tapes of this phone call. As I used to say, the WH became averse to taping Presidential phone calls in about 1974. /2

The article you boast about details how you and Gabbard did an end-run around careful practices for declassifying highly sensitive classified intelligence in order to politicize the information, carelessly placing sources and methods at risk. /1

If I’d been caught taking home 15 boxes of material, including classified documents, when I retired from @CIA, having my house searched wouldn’t be a surprise. That it happened over 6 months later would be!

That makes it even more unusual, but more importantly INTENTIONAL, that GEN Milley wore his Army Combat Uniform to the White House today, as seen in pictures of him accompanying @realDonaldTrump on his St John's Church photo-op today. /3

The police officer didn’t hold the door for Trump. Respect. 🫡

Former White House Situation Room sr director during Obama admin here. Totally wrong. Not unusual at all. Biden got full PDB when Veep.
Have heard from multiple White House and national security officials that Kamala is getting the full PDB daily. Highly unusual and Biden didn’t even get that himself when he was VP.

Fmr WH Situation Room Sr Director here: Hmmm…what would I have done if President Obama had brought Michelle into a sensitive meeting there? Don’t know. Never had to think about it cuz it NEVER would have happened.

Could the President make calls on his own directly to a foreign head of state? Sure, but these are very busy people who aren't always available for impromptu calls. The procedures were developed over time for both the convenience and the protection of the President. /11 & Final

Could there be recordings made by the foreign head-of-state's government or a foreign intelligence service? Sure, particularly when the call is made over a non-secure phone. /3

Yes, there should be transcripts of the call. It is a long-standing practice, intended to not only memorialize the call but to protect the President against the foreign leader/gov't making egregious claims about the call. /5
