True America, opposite of SF. You get Married at 24, get a job at Ford paying you $80k/year - live in a 4 bed 2 bath house for $300k/year. Your kid walks to a top 10 school district in the state and there's a 75% chance they go to UMich for $10k/year.

We got to shoot down a bunch of drones with our laser weapon system Archimedes this past week at Camp Grayling / Northern Strike. Long range, $0.25 marginal cost to shoot down FPV drones

Example: Chinese fiber lasers sans gantry at the multi-kw mark are between $5-8k. Some of them are air cooled. Nlight wants $70k+ for a water cooled 1kw fiber laser system. I don’t care that your line width is +\- 0.5nm

Photonics West is this week - another reminder of how every 5 years there’s a new IP leak from a Us company that generates 15 Chinese laser suppliers that do 70% quality at 5% price. Might as well open source the tech at this point and allow us to build our own optics companies.
