- There's a crisis of academic casualisation and precarity at the LSE. Insecure and short-term contracts are rife. We're social scientists, so we decided to research how serious the problem is. Here's a thread with our key findings, 28-page report + code repository. @ucu #ucuRISING
GIF - A statement of the LSE UCU Branch Committee regarding this week's protest on campus and the language used in response to it.
- The USS dispute results are in. Turnout: 55.1% For strike action: 89.1% For action short of a strike: 95.5% A huge local result, strengthening our LSE branch in all matters. Thank you for voting. We await the decisions of the Higher Education Committee on what comes next.
- Happy to announce that LSE has *agreed* to our request that salary deducted from staff for participating in strike action will go to the student hardship fund.
- There seems to be a misunderstanding in some quarters that staff are striking over conditions they voluntarily entered into. Not so. 1. The pay dispute is about the annual pay offers made by employers, below RPI inflation for 12 years, meaning real term cuts from initial salary.
- We conducted an emergency consultation of our members with non-confusing questions. Hundreds of votes later, here are the results. #ucuRISING @ucu
- Something unexpected is happening at LSE.Student solidarity intensifies.
- Hearing that more than one departmental cohort of MSc students have collectively withheld the third installment of their fee payments and written to the LSE directorate in solidarity with our strike action. A more specific accounting welcome, in replies or direct messages!
- The four fights (pay, equality, precarity, workload) dispute result is out. At LSE: Turnout: 57.1% (higher than for USS) For strike: 84.6% For action short of a strike: 93.2% Another startling result. Huge mandates for these fights as much as for pensions. Enough is enough.
- Glad to confirm that, at our request, wages deducted for strike action at LSE will again be reserved for the student hardship fund.
- Absolutely HISTORIC scenes at LSE graduations today with LSE students standing up in solidarity! ✊✊✊ #settlethedispute #ucuRISING @LSEnews
