Today, we're a step closer to opening our new home in Smithfield, with a £50m pledge from @cityoflondon and @MayorofLondon. The contribution of an additional £25m each will support our goal to create a world class, sustainable new museum in the historic Smithfield markets.

The statue of Robert Milligan has stood uncomfortably outside the Museum of London Docklands for a long time, one of only three museums in the UK to address the history of the transatlantic slave trade. (thread)

Did you know that archery was one of the first sports to include a women’s event at the Olympics – in 1904? 🏹 This epic Victorian ensemble was owned by one 'Fanny de Neufville Giveen', nee Lucas. A thread 🧵

Paul Simonon’s infamous broken bass smashed onto the stage floor at New York’s Palladium in 1979, and so became an iconic cover image. Now part of our free @TheClash #LondonCalling display opening this Friday. #MuseumofLondonCalling

The statue presently stands shrouded with placards and is now an object of protest, we believe these protests should remain as long as the statue remains.

See London as you’ve never seen it before. A British-Somali poet, @MohamedWrites, captures a near silent London, as he cycles through the deserted capital on Christmas Day in the morning.

Hand-knitted woollen Tudor child’s mitten found in Finsbury which in Tudor times was covered by fields. Knitting became popular in the 1500s. It is very rare to find Tudor clothes still surviving today. Search Collections online for more Tudor items: ow.ly/3T8I30hiNLZ

Cast your eyes along our recently acquired panorama of London, painted around 1815 by Pierre Prévost. As an added twist, we've pointed out where some more modern buildings now stand. On display 15 March. P.s It's 20 ft long, so perhaps grab a cuppa.
