I testified at the Senate yesterday on the "Combatting Hate" Bill, which impacts expressive rights. I also listened to every other panel discussion on this Bill, which was very illuminating and quite disturbing. Canada is on a precipice. We are a country of atomized groups
“Bill C-9 risks eroding Canadians’ most fundamental freedom. Criminal law should target conduct, not expression; violence, not dissent; and incitement, not unpopular opinion.” Watch FSU Canada Executive Director @LDBildy’s full remarks on #BillC9, the “Combatting Hate Act” ⬇️

Our population is divided, possibly beyond repair. We don't just disagree, we live in completely separate & irreconcilable realities. We have different facts, different science, different media, different narratives, different values. We view each other as distorted caricatures.

Forced? No, they just couldn't work, go to university, play sports, see their child born, get on a plane or train, visit elderly parents, go to a restaurant, or have a life-saving organ transplant if they didn't. Sounds like coercion, which is pretty damned close to "forced".

As nurse Amy Hamm's lawyer throughout this ordeal, I am grateful to see this support. We need to get our institutions and regulators permanently out of the business of controlling speech and minds. They are too prone to being weaponized as a tool for cancel culture. @preta_6
A nurse with a spotless track record gets fined and suspended for pointing out there are two genders, and for praising world renowned author & women's rights advocate @jk_rowling. This is authoritarian censorship. We must restore free speech and free thinking in a free country.

Many people in the West have long been flirting with very dangerous ideas from the safety of a stable society. Did they really think that provocative concepts like “unearned privilege”, “decolonization” and evil “whiteness” would just stay in academia and never be acted upon in

Something that struck me with this speech was how much it sounded like a loving, authoritative parent was finally setting boundaries for her unruly children. It’s been a long time since it has felt like there are reasonable adults in charge in this country, and we need this if
Gender identity can be a hard thing to talk about, especially when you are involved. But this conversation is extremely important and parental involvement is critical. Kids need to know we love and support them. My message to all Albertans:

Some good news! Disciplinary proceedings against my client, @dockaurG, for her online posts criticizing public health measures, were withdrawn by her regulator, the CPSO. A 15-day hearing was to start in January. Many thanks to @TDF_Can for its support.

The Ottawa situation increasingly feels like a scene from the Hunger Games, where the outlying Districts' residents have turned up in person to the Capitol, to the chagrin of its pampered denizens, rather than just sending supplies, taxes & child sacrifices like they're meant to.

Tamara Lich’s lawyer gives an excellent statement: “I’m very concerned about the future of freedom of expression in this country.” Every Canadian who values basic liberties should be. As a free speech advocate, I’m pleased she’s not going back to jail, but I am certainly not
Tamara Lich's lawyer Lawrence Greenspon spoke to me and others outside the courthouse after Tamara was sentenced to house arrest. I asked him for one message he'd like Canadians to know about this case. What he told me was powerful.

I'm not sure where we go from here, but I have a better understanding of my ancestors who packed up their entire village and moved across the ocean.

This is the most natural I have seen @fordnation in front of a camera in two years. It's amazing what speaking the truth can do for a person.
I’m going to give Premier Ford a shout out and give the benefit of the doubt. I like this Doug Ford. Seems sincere. Was worrisome when Christine Elliott contradicted him a few days ago. Not the time to be complacent.

Maybe the rule should be, any media organization that gets government funding should not be accredited to attend—how can they do their job of holding truth to power if they are not fully independent of that power?
Post-debate CBC panel STILL whining about the presence of independent outlets at the debate. Barton & Cochrane go off on a whiny tangent about how Rebel News was accredited by the commission. Cochrane bangs his desk with his hand for emphasis.

Unions don't seem too interested in worker's rights anymore. In fact, they often stand as an additional institutional opponent to the worker. Their new mission is to promote and defend an insidious ideology that hides behind a mask of compassion. Perhaps they have outlived their
The ultra-conservative right has organized nationwide events under the pretext of protecting children, while their true aim is to protest the teaching of 2SLGBTQIA+ content in schools. Our mission is clear: to counter these protests and demonstrate unequivocally that there is no

My God. So many desperate people losing their careers, their education, their dreams, their mental health. I cannot keep up with the deluge of emails and phone calls. @fordnation Check your conscience & stop these mandates before the fabric of society is destroyed beyond repair!
