Floodgate operations from Lake Buchanan today. LCRA opened a total of four floodgates at Buchanan Dam on July 14 – the first floodgate operations there since May 2019. This coordinated response helps manage significant water inflows across the Highland Lakes system.

Coordinated floodgate operations across the Highland Lakes system. This drone footage, shot over the past few days, shows floodgates at Buchanan Dam, Wirtz Dam and Starcke Dam, as LCRA manages water from recent flooding in Central Texas.

The last week has been a tragic reminder that we all live in the heart of "Flash Flood Alley" Floods here are particularly intense for several reasons. It's been a deadly problem for more than a century and it's the main reason why the Highland Lakes were constructed #txwx

LCRA is strongly encouraging everyone to stay off lakes Travis, LBJ and Marble Falls for the next few days to avoid flood debris, fast-moving flows and bacteria levels that traditionally increase after a flood event. This is especially important at night. bit.ly/44yAUhW

We sound sirens before opening floodgates at all dams to warn people in the area. The siren sounds for 5 minutes before the first gate opens, then 1 minute before each additional gate opens.

We expect to close all floodgates today. Current status: - All floodgates at Buchanan Dam are closed. - One floodgate remains partially open at Wirtz and Starcke dams. - Water continues to flow over the spillway at Inks Dam, which does not have any floodgates.
