Time for a minor rant.
Things like Teddies happen when we force an environment where people want everyone to be positive all the time and question nothing. There's a multitude of reasons why they want this.. namely money for their bags, for advisors, for founders, etc.
I take issue when anyone who speaks up is instantly shut down with comments like "somebody didn't get presale" or "that's toxic" because they have hidden motives that pushes them to shut others down.
A trend I've noticed is what I call toxic positivity. As an ecosystem, we don’t benefit from being 100% positive all the time. Yet anyone expressing negative sentiment is instantly painted as only having ulterior motives.
Like all things, balance is needed. We need to question things and point out bad actors. Otherwise, there's no way to prevent, or at least diminish, the issues that are plaguing the ecosystem.
This is why I take issue with false heroes.
What do I mean by this? I mean people who turn a blind eye to suspicious behavior to line their own pockets. Taking private allocations and hiding it, while pretending they are honest and transparent people, among other things.
The same people are quick to blame the market or its participants, which is like a drug dealer blaming drug addicts. They do this to absolve themselves of responsibility and virtue signal those who aren't in the loop. After all, it's easier to get attention off you if you villainize those who call out your bullshit.
In this environment, it's often a zero-sum game, i.e. player vs. player. Most will say, do, and overlook anything to make money. This is especially true for those promoting something.
This is how the market operates. We accept this in some form but there is a huge difference between manipulating the game to extract maximum value and merely participating in it.
Most of these “positive” people will use this against you to paint you as the "toxic issue". Worse than dismissing others as toxic they gaslight and distract from the real issues - issues plaguing our ecosystem.
At a basis my point is,
Toxic positivity is the belief that thinking, talking or acting in a seemingly positive way will protect you from the effects of negative experiences, relationships, thoughts and beliefs.
This obviously isn't true, just like the opposite isn't. Unfortunately, it seems despite that it's becoming more prevalent due to certain bad actors pushing this no-questions-asked agenda.
By questioning things, we gain clarity instead of pretending to have clarity and having a pseudo-relationship built on the premise of using others as exit liquidity.
Personally, I think its very possible to make money in this space without intentionally or knowingly screwing over others for their money.
It’s how I've operated and will continue to operate regardless.
I can't be the only one tired of this.
To be clear, this is not directed at anyone specific as this issue is widespread. Likewise, this issue isn't always obvious.
