Ruby asked us to donate her savings (intended for gap-year travels) to research to find better blood cancer treatments. We set up a @CCLG_UK fund in her memory. V grateful for any donations; or if you’d like to fundraise for us please get in touch ❤️🙏

Dear @RishiSunak This is our daughter Ruby. She died of leukaemia on 15 May 2020 aged 18. She said goodbye to her friends, grandparents & cousins by Zoom. Only a handful of people allowed at her funeral. It’s essential that we have an open & transparent #CovidEnquiry.

As we come to the end of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, I wanted to reshare these photos of Ruby, at the beach, 2 weeks before her diagnosis She’d been poorly for a few weeks & the various doctors we’d seen were sure her symptoms were due to allergies. #ccam 🧵

Lovely Twitter folk - I’d love your help with remembering Ruby today, on the fourth anniversary of her death. Ruby wasn’t afraid of much, but she was afraid she’d soon be forgotten. I promised her I wouldn’t let that happen. #RememberingRuby

While Boris & Rishi partied, we tried to give Ruby the best possible end of life. A hot tub & a blow up flamingo were all we could manage. No friends, grandparents or cousins. Not even for 10 minutes. She had to say goodbye on Zoom. We deserve better. #BorisTheLiar

A thread about why, if you fancy dessert, you should always order dessert. When Ruby was 13, we had a family holiday with Ruby’s cousins in Helford, Cornwall. The kids all did a sailing course - it was a bitterly cold week where it really didn’t feel like July. 🧵 1/n

We almost all receive awful, terrible news at some point, & we can often recall exactly how our body responded The lurching pit in your stomach, the dry mouth, your heart beating so hard you fear it might explode out of your chest 4 years ago, we weren’t expecting bad news 🧵

Jessie was one of Ruby’s best mates. In year 10 they hatched a plan to one day be PM & Deputy PM. In year 11 they were appointed head girl & deputy head girl at their school, @TCSDulwich - & they joked that this was the first step on their path to #10 🧵1/n

Why does cancer evoke so much talk of conflict? Ruby was a lover not a fighter. A dyed in the wool pacifist who avoided all forms of conflict. She was the child in the kindergarten playground trying to broker a peace-deal between friends who had fallen out. 🧵1/n

We’re forever grateful to the anonymous stranger who donated his stem cells to Ruby. It gave us hope she might live a long life. Sadly it wasn’t to be, but it did give her a few more oh so precious months with us ❤️ #WorldMarrowDonorDay #WMDD2023
