Five years in jail for planning peaceful protest is not just an outrage it’s completely incompatible with democracy. We need a new democratic settlement in this country which includes the right to protest, and shifts power away from the elites that anti-protest laws protect
Chaotic scenes as a prison van carrying some of the ‘Truth Telling 5’ @JustStop_Oil activists leaves Southwark Crown Court, after being sentenced to the longest prison terms (4 to 5 years each) given to peaceful protesters in living memory.

I hate repeatedly finding out that every comedy character actor isn’t acting. They are just playing themselves.

Corbyn's 2017 near victory is one of the most remarkable and still largely unexplained political events this century. It's now confirmed the senior management of the LP were working flat out to prevent him winning. Their actions likely made the difference bit.ly/3a0oAsI

This performative policing epitomizes the culture war posturing of which it is a part. The contemporary right is predicated on denying the actual problems and crises of our time, constructing instead imaginary threats that don’t disturb their worldview.
    Replying to @HUCKmagazine
huge number of riot police just been marched in to protect the churchill statue (which has been largely ignored by protestors)

A tweet by @BBCNews describes this as Israeli forces "jostling" mourners.
What is this, apart from barbarism that comes from knowing you enjoy the impunity that comes with being protected by the most powerful nations on earth?

Protestors wear #SquidGames uniforms during a 500,000 strong general strike in South Korea today calling for a ban on precarious and irregular work contracts, the universal right to unionise, and the nationalisation of key industries.

In 2006 I helped to establish the first climate camp near Drax. That week there was a failed attempt to symbolically shut down the power station. Four years later we discovered the reason for the failure. Two activists I knew were revealed as uncover cops. This is their legacy.
Drax is chopping down trees and taking logs from some of the world’s most precious forests to burn at its Yorkshire power station, which provides 12% of the UK’s renewable energy The Green Energy Scandal Exposed is on @BBCOne at 8pm and on @BBCiPlayer bbc.in/3M1bNKX

Here you go. GB energy will not be an energy company it will be a de-risking vehicle subsidizing the catastrophically awful private energy companies so they can own the key infrastructure we depend on and rinse us for the rest of our lives. We have to stop these plans.
Pat McFadden admits GB energy isn't an energy company at all, but is actually a finance company designed to generate private sector investment. We saw how well PFI worked in the NHS. Now Labour wants to roll it out in the energy sector.

The killing of Patrice Lumumba was one of the most significant assassinations of the 20th century. The signal moment in the West’s campaign to destroy the nascent independence of de-colonising Africa. The MI6 agent who organised it. Daphne Park, then becomes a governor of the BBC

This isn’t a game Stella. Over 500 people have already been arrested for holding cardboard which disagrees with your policies. They could face 14 years in jail. They will certainly get a life changing terrorism convictions limiting their travel and employment opportunities
Ah @owenjonesjourno we have known each other over 20 years now and agreed and disagreed on much - this kind of statement is just playing to the crowd on here. You know violence from many quarters being stoked - I think we both want to stop that. Play the ball not the algorithm.

It takes an incredible mobilisation of resources to keep facts like this from being the main focus of political debate. It's why oligarchs buy newspapers and social media platforms, set up faux TV stations, fund think tanks, lobbying groups and political parties, etc.
