Comedy legend Mel Brooks introduced a special screening of “Dolemite is My Name” this weekend - it may have been the highlight of our lives. Mel has been our hero since we were 10 - nobody we admire more. Writer/Director/Producer/Genius. Here’s an excerpt youtu.be/ZJpEiYcEOBU

One of my favorite Fred Willard moments was when he was asked on a talk show what he was up to - he replied “I’m working on a novel”. The host congratulated him and Fred replied: “Those things are so hard to read”

Ed Asner was such a good guy - I didn’t know him at all but when “Dolemite” was released he contacted me out of the blue to say how much he enjoyed it. What a mensch. R.I.P.

R.I.P. Buck Henry - our most fearless screenwriter. Buck was also a big personality & a performer... he gave screenwriting a face. Growing up I could turn on Saturday Night LIve (which Buck hosted 10 times) and point to the funniest, smartest guy and say - that's a screenwriter.

Holy shit- last night TCM showed a documentary on the making of the legendary lost Jerry Lewis film "The Day The Clown Cried" - This is probably as close to a finished version any of us will ever see. Here’s a few clips for those who dare to watch. It's as crazy as its reputation

Found a sweet pic of Norm MacDonald when he was a young kid. Just hanging on the couch. But I guarantee you… he was still the funniest person in that room.

I notice the truck ahead of me has this plate. I pull up next to him & say “I love your plate. Why did you get it?” He smiles: “My Name is Ed and I do hardwood floors!” Oh. “I wrote a movie called Ed Wood.” Blank stare. Never heard of it. Red light turns green. I drive away.
