KRGV CHANNEL 5 NEWS FIRST WARN 5 team. Get the latest forecast for the Rio Grande Valley.
- There is a chance of snow Friday morning, but it's VERY small. Mainly just scattered rain showers, but a few flakes may mix in. Any that fall will melt right away. Still not a sure thing. We'll keep you posted.
- This is probably the most weather warnings, advisories, and watches you'll ever see in #SouthTexas and the #RGV. Dangerous night for sure. #Hanna
- One of the best meteor showers of the year, the #Perseids, peaks tonight after 12am. To maximize the number of meteors you see, get away from city lights. You'll also want to keep the moon to your back and look at the darkest part of the sky. #shootingstar
- Late Thursday night/early Friday morning, snow will be falling in the the mountains of Mexico. Some models want to sneak a little snow/rain mix into South Texas. More than likely just a cold rain, but it's something to keep an eye on. Stay tuned.
- With sustained winds now at 75 mph, Hanna is officially a category 1 hurricane. The current forecast calls for 70-90 mph wind gusts in Willacy County and 50-70 mph wind gusts for the rest of the Valley. Widespread flooding is likely in the #RGV especially this evening & overnight
00:00- The National Hurricane Center has increased the chance for a tropical depression or storm in the Gulf of Mexico. They have a 40% chance for formation from Monday - Wednesday. Use this as a reminder to revisit stay/go plans, restock supplies, and check home/business resilience.
