TIL: Half of all federal tax income goes to UBI for people over 65. (approx. $3,000 per month from the US government) This is through social security + medicare Social security: 22k Medicare: 15k Approx 2T of 4.4T of 2023 receipts Wow. Unsustainable. Huge tax on young.

I have wondered the same. Currently, I suspect end of life healthcare costs will eat a lot of this. Also much harder to make new friends later in life for most people. I suspect this type of thing will lead people to vote for 1. High estate taxes 2. Higher wealth taxes.
