    One year ago today, I left not only the Auburn beat, but sports writing altogether. People often ask me if I miss it. I thought I might. But the honest answer is that I don't. I needed to make the change I did. I tried my best to explain why here:

    I've chosen a side. And it's the side without ESPN. I still need YouTube TV. I need NFL RedZone/Sunday Ticket. I need FOX and CBS games. I want ESPN. But the only place I'll get it is if it comes back on YouTube TV, because I'll never pay ESPN a single dime directly.

    Bruce Pearl is the mayor of Auburn University. Walks into the student center Chick-fil-A during lunch rush. Stops by every table to ask students if they're coming to tonight's game. Then asks what they're studying. Listens to every story. Poses for pictures. Not many like him.

    Today, Auburn guard Bryce Brown: — Got up 250 shots before practice — Practiced with the team — Made (not attempted; made) 200 more shots with his dad, Cedric, after practice — Will come back to the gym to get more shots up later tonight 9 of 13 vs. Kansas doesn't just happen.

    Linebacker K.J. Britt said his message to the defense on Alabama's last drive was that everyone has a hometown. He's from Oxford. Jeremiah Dinson is from Miami. Etc. But in that moment, they were all from Auburn, and they has to defend Auburn.

    Derrick Brown got to the team bus, turned around and ran back through the stadium gate towards Auburn's locker room shouting "Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!" He left his Chick-fil-A box behind after talking to media. Priorities.
