A nuclear energy scientist says he is a victim of “cancel culture”, after Engineers Australia called off his scheduled pro-nuclear speech following pressure from renewable energy advocate Simon Holmes à Court

Need better context on aged care COVID deaths. Before COVID, 60,000 aged care residents died each year in Australia. That’s 165 a day, 1,150 a week, 5,000 a month. Yet the media suggests 560 aged care ppl dying “WITH” COVID over ~6 weeks (13 a day) is extreme during a pandemic

8th in line for family COVID test at 545am, before it opens at 8am. In Australia, this is what you have to do to cross some state borders. Entering the 3rd year of the pandemic & with a world leading vaccination rate of >90% of adults, this is ‘living with COVID’ Aussie style

Albanese’s $4.3m home controversy is pure tall poppy syndrome. Financial success of public leaders is celebrated in the United States. But in Australia, it is political poison.

I’m aged in my 30s and had the AstraZeneca vaccine in the last 24 hours. Bugger waiting any longer. We need to get the jab to end these crippling lockdowns for small business, workers and students

Lifeline recorded the highest daily number of calls (3,345 calls) in the organisation’s history on Monday 2 August. Sydney's lockdown is having real social consequences.

The engineer whose nuclear speech was cancelled the day renewables energy advocate Simon Holmes à Court objected to it has finally been allowed to deliver his talk six weeks later.

It was taboo to write about the #NDIS waste when @PhillipCoorey & me were years ago. Ppl abused us. Now, they have finally woken up to the tens of billions being wasted. It’s a national disgrace that @billshortenmp originally denied, & belatedly now says he will fix

Schools are closing - again - in Victoria & the children of the state are being robbed of vital education & their futures. Thousands of foreign tennis ppl allowed in, but Premier suggests stopping thousands of ordinary Victorians returning from overseas. Hypocrisy is breathtaking

Can you imagine how many media stories from climate/political journos there would be if this was a renewables energy scientist banned from speaking after social media pressure from a wealthy nuclear advocate who had helped raise money for pro-nuclear MPs?

If ⁦@NukeForClimate⁩ wasn’t cancelled, 400 smart @EngAustralia ppl would have watched speech & formed own views. Instead, cancel culture means 100s of thousands know via @FinancialReview@BenFordhamLive@TomElliott3AW @vanOnselenP Own goal!

Professor Duncan Maskell, an expert in infectious diseases & the head of Melbourne Uni, said Australia had to move beyond the lockdown phase of its response or risk experiencing even greater loss of life from poverty and suicide.
