    I know common sense says it’s coincidental, but I found this rainbow appearing over the stable shortly after the news broke of Her Majesty’s death very moving. No country could have had a better Head of State & no sport could have had a greater friend than she has been to racing.

    This is lovely. Thanks to the kindness of @ponteraces, #Dereham is having extra carrots with his tea tonight, every winning horse being sent home with a big bag of carrots. A typically nice touch by a very well run & thoughtful racecourse.

    Most trainers have been putting up ‘Happy New Year’ tweets telling us how many winners they trained in 2023. But they’re suspiciously quiet when it comes to saying how well (or badly) they’ve done in teaching the horses to put themselves away. Here’s #VictorTrumper this morning.

    We hear plenty about victory ‘celebration’, but this is the correct way to celebrate riding your first Group One winner on the Saturday afternoon: riding out on the Sunday morning. Congratulations to @CierenFallonJr, a credit to his family, to his profession and to himself.

    Outstanding by @HollieDoyle1 pre-race @GTYarmouthRaces. Illustrates a point which I often make to aspiring riders: there’s a lot more to learning 2 race-ride than polishing one’s style on the equiciser - getting the horse to the start is often more difficult than riding the race.

    I am overwhelmed by Roy’s Flat Special Achievement Award at the @RacehorseOwners dinner. Sincere thanks to organisers and those who voted for him. The award, like the horse, means the world to us. He’s more unmoved than I am, and just wants to go out in rain & get even muddier.

    We can’t watch the news any day without hearing of innocent lives lost/taken far soon. That, though, doesn’t lessen the grief when such a tragedy occurs within our racing family. Michael O’Sullivan was clearly a lovely young man. Condolences to his family, friends & colleagues.

    Ultra proud of @Roy__Rocket winning @BrightonRace for the seventh time, on his 50th lifetime start. He’s a wonderful little horse, and the reception he gets at Brighton is v special. Very well ridden @RossBirkett

    A very special day as dear little #Dereham battles his way to a brave win over two miles on the July Course @NewmarketRace under an outstanding ride from @daviesharry_. Great owner/breeder triumph for @CollingsBerry & particularly good that he won in the @RacingWithPride silks.
