- It has been a long 18 months. I have lost much of my living as a musician. I have lost friends to the virus. I have lost respect for folks whom I thought I knew. But, I will be damned if I will use any of that as an excuse for bad behavior. Y'all with me?
- James Earl Carter, our 39th president, turns 97 today. Whether you agree or disagree with his politics, I think that everyone can agree that he is a good man who lives his faith and a life of service. Happy Birthday, Mr. President.
- I know that everyone is all riled up about impersonations and parodies, but our democracy is on the line on Tuesday. Don't get distracted. Go vote. Forget about the blue check. Focus on the blue wave.
- There is a saved message from my late sister on my phone. It shows up when I need it; never on a schedule. Needed it this morning, and there it was. She says my name, sings to me, tells me she loves me, tells me goodbye. Then, after a pause, tells me she loves me one last time.
- Hotel lobby conversation... Me: What kind of banjo in your case? Young Man: How did you know what it was? Me: I play. YM: Pick me one. I did, then he did. He asked my name, I told him, and he said, "Wait a minute. Like Joe Newberry?" I said,"Exactly like." I love what I do.
- After such a hard day yesterday, here is what dogs can teach us... Act happy when someone you love walks through the door. Be excited that there is food in your bowl. Show loyalty. Take walks every day. Nap when you need to. Bite only when necessary. Love with a full heart.
