- A lot of times an mRNA is elevated because it's protein is lowered... interpret your RNAseq accordingly...
- Replying to @jflierWell congrats you’ve got the tiki torch boys all reved up. But I’ll bite, how does a statement describing ones efforts towards diversity affect academic freedom? I also had to make statements about my teaching philosophy and research approach for tenure and my freedom survived.
- Replying to @petersm_thWho are you? How did you get a checkmark and such irrelevant opinions. Being a foot soldier in the war on expertise is not a good look these days. Show a little respect for the folks who did the foundational research and developed the vaccines that are saving millions of lives.
- Replying to @jflier1. Yes. 2. Not applicable but can’t hurt. 3. Not at a public institution. 4. Irrelevant. I don’t think my diversity statement would discuss any of those things. I’d just say I’m committed to understanding my own biases and systemic underrepresentation and correcting it. 1/2
- It’s very ‘PI-centric’ and IMO slightly disrespectful to talk about students in terms of costs. Working with students is a privilege, and we have a duty to support their learning and careers, and of course their ability to live.
- Of all the unhinged ideas, letting an antivaxxer run the FDA, NIH, etc is horrifying.Trump on anti-vaxxer RFK Jr.: “I'm gonna let him go wild on health. I'm gonna let him go wild on the food. I'm gonna let him go wild on medicines.”
00:00 - Replying to @JimJohnsonSci and @jflier2/2 I’d also just simply point to my hiring and mentoring track record, both in academia and industry, and let it speak for itself. Not that hard. I don’t see what the fuss is about. I’m happy to be asked tough questions and should anyone in leadership.
- I've said before, you need 3 things for a successful postdoctoral fellowship. 1. A mentor who cares about your success. 2. An interesting project you can start your career on. 3. The resources to do a thorough job on that project.
- Delighted to announce my new role - Associate Director, Fundamental Research and Preclinical Models, Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute @VCHhealthcare @ubc working alongside the visionary @TTcardUBC . Can’t wait to build new bridges and support growth.
- Replying to @jflierI looked through the replies you got before making my comment. I’m glad you feel affirmed. But what please inform me, if I’m uninformed, how diversity statements affect academic freedom.
- At your service ! I’m excited to work with everyone and help lead the LSI to even greater heights. - After 5y of work, excited to post! @annizubc did the first direct test of the insulin-cancer hypothesis. Mice with a modest insulin reduction, but no change in glucose, have 50% less PanIN lesions and reduced inflammation. @ubclifesciences
