Got really tired of seeing Bronfenbrenner's bioecological model illustrated only w/ white boys. So we made a new (prettier) version centering Black girls. Please RT & share in your psych classes! Full article on #attachment & #antiracism is open access: doi.org/10.1080/146167…

Can we talk about the simultaneous desire to feel connected to people but also to be left the hell alone? Is there a word for this feeling?

Because I study kids, I'm going to take your Q further back in development: In elementary school I (like many other kids) would say I had a stomachache when I was anxious about going to school. It starts young.

Aspirations for academics: a 🧵(1/4) 1. May your heart be bigger than your h-index 2. May you peer review others' work the way you wish to be peer reviewed (the Golden Rule/don't be Reviewer 2) 3. May you never forget what it's like to be a struggling grad student (or postdoc)

Delighted to share that I'm coming home to California to teach at my alma mater @pomonacollege as a TT Assistant Professor of Psychological Science this Fall!🎉 This is my dream job—a way to give back to the place that nurtured me as a young scholar. A word of gratitude🧵

On Friday I learned that a student in my class passed away. Today UVA is under shelter in place with an active shooter. And when it's safe, I have to talk to my students about both tragedies💔 Trauma-informed colleagues... any guidance for supporting students through this?

Hey @AcademicChatter @OpenAcademics: with all the stuff on your plate, how do you make time for the “deep work” — reading, reflecting, imagining, or diving into a new literature?

Aspirations for academics: (3/4) 10. May you be the type of collaborator you'd want to collaborate with 11. May you turn off email notifications on your phone 12. May you remember WHY you do your work 13. May you always allow the world to amaze/surprise/inspire new Qs in you

There are multiple paths to success as a postdoc. From my experience: 1. Seek out good mentors 2. Find collaborators you love working with 3. Create community outside of work 4. Give back; do what's meaningful 5. Network within AND beyond academia 6. Be kind—to yourself & others

If you're teaching a developmental psychology or neuroscience class this Fall, this is my favorite quote to share with students: "One generation full of deeply loving parents would change the brain of the next generation, and with that, the world." - @DrCharlesRaison
