Why does the supercar-owning, luxury-watch-collecting, wildly corrupt VP of Equatorial Guinea want Stephen Miller to come visit his country? We answer that in our latest podcast episode. Hint: it's all about shady deportation deals. Listen in:

The Trump admin is cutting deals with foreign govts to forcibly deport thousands of people to countries where they have no ties. In this episode of Forced From Home, we speak with Tutu Alicante who explains how these governments benefit and at what cost. refugeesinternational.org/actions/forced…

So look - on the "Gaza condoms" thing. USAID procures condoms for around $0.05 apiece. $50m would be ONE BILLION condoms. What's going is here is NOT a billion condoms for Gaza. What's going on is that the bros at DOGE apparently can't read govt spreadsheets.

Hey @TheoVon - I used to run humanitarian assistance and disaster relief at @USAID. The @VP is flat-out lying to you about this. I'd be happy to come on your show and tell your audience the truth about @USAID's work.

🚨 JD Vance says DOGE found that for "every dollar we were spending on humanitarian assistance, $0.12 was actually making it to people who needed it."

Here is the speech that the country *needed* to hear from the President tonight: "My fellow Americans, the next few months are going to be hard. For many of us, harder than anything we've faced in our lifetimes.

So - I've actually led Ebola outbreak response at @USAID. This is bunk from Elon. They have laid off most of the experts, they're bankrupting most of the partner orgs, have withdrawn from WHO, and muzzled CDC. What's left is a fig-leaf effort to cover their asses politically.

Elon Musk: "We will make mistakes. We won't be perfect ... so for example, with USAID, one of the things we accidentally canceled very briefly was ebola prevention."

Might not feel this way on twitter - but back here on earth, DOGE did not have a great day yesterday on the @USAID front. Elon's attempt to speedrun the destruction of USAID is starting to hit real legal and political bumps. The pushback is starting - and must be sustained. 🧵

We knew it could happen. We knew it *would* eventually happen. So: We left them a playbook. We left them an expert NSC team. We built a transition exercise around it. We built new programs to prepare for it. They ignored/closed/undermined all of that. This is horseshit.

Trump, who reportedly ignored a pandemic response playbook put together during the Obama years, claims nobody could've seen a pandemic coming and tries to blame Obama for his lack of preparation

The whole point of asylum is to protect people who CAN’T safely stay where they are. Literally the whole point.

Musk: But, usually when they attack DOGE, they never attack any of the specifics. So they will say what we're doing is somehow unconstitutional or illegal or whatever. We are like well, which line of the cost savings do you disagree with? And they can't point to any

As both an emergency manager and as someone who helped manage the 2014 USG Ebola response, let me tell you why this is such a damaging tweet. This is the loudest voice in the US government sharing actively problematic risk communication.

The Coronavirus is very much under control in the USA. We are in contact with everyone and all relevant countries. CDC & World Health have been working hard and very smart. Stock Market starting to look very good to me!

Alright. There is a LOT of chatter on this website bashing those who are saying most of the country still isn't ready for a safe reopening. So, as we approach what would normally be summer pool season, here's a short analogy about pooping and accountability.

This is the scene at O’Hare airport. The traveler who took the photo said it’s a 6-hour wait for bags then on to customs for 2-4 more of waiting in shoulder-to-shoulder crowds. Police are handing out water and disinfectant wipes. @fly2ohare #ord #coronavirus #COVID19

Welcome to May. As I feared, the federal government wasted April much as it wasted February. That is a harsh assessment given how much the country has been suffering. But without competent federal leadership, the best we are managing is to tread water. Some stats:
