- Always in awe of those giants who did what no one could believe was possible. Think of all who have benefited from the challenges they took on.On this day in 1968, Denton Cooley performed the first heart-lung transplant on a 2-month old infant with a complete AV canal defect, pulmonary hypertension, and pneumonia. The child was reoperated on for bleeding and unfortunately died 14 hours after the transplant.
