Not a single college or professional team in this country just had a worse day than the University of New Mexico football program. Almost hard to believe this much bad news could accumulate in a single day.

Van Tate of KRQE reporting that Cibola’s much-buzzed about freshman guard, Amari Brown, is leaving the state and will move to Atlanta. Brown joins a list of kids who have left the state for greener pastures. Can’t say I blame them one bit. This state has failed them.

Struggling to find the right words today. Austin Denton was with us all too briefly, a shooting star who burned brightly. His big heart and his passion for life leaves a mark on us all. You did good, kiddo. I won’t ever forget you.

BREAKING: Albuquerque Journal has learned that the state will, in fact, be allowing fans for high school sporting events based on health color of a particular county. This is developing. But I believe it will be 25 percent of a venue's capacity. Outstanding news.

BREAKING: And now it’s official. Finally. APS been cleared to return to athletics. As I reported this morning, this development was anticipated and expected by Interim Superintendent Scott Elder.

This is Isaac Venzor Prado’s mom and dad walking his #26 jersey to first base. It was an honorary intentional walk.

I can tell you one thing the state had better think about changing FAST ... and that is allowing at least parents to view their kids' high school events. Absolutely no reason whatsoever fans can attend UNM baseball but not, for example, a high school football game. NO REASON.
Great to be back at the ballpark! UNM baseball leading Air Force 9-5 after 4 innings.

We truly — and sadly — have reached the point that no place in ABQ is safe anymore. It’s absurd. The national statistics bear this out: we live in one of the most violent and dangerous cities in this country. It is infuriating, upsetting and depressing. An embarrassment.

Imagine the anxiety and heartache that must be going on with high school senior athletes right now.

I’d give anything not to be tweeting this news, but here it is: The Albuquerque Journal has confirmed that Sandia High School baseball coach Chris Eaton has died. Chris was only 34 or 35, I believe. This is sickening news and a gut wrenching loss.

They just formally announced Austin Denton as a member of La Cueva's athletic Hall of Fame during this halftime ceremony. I still miss that kid very much. I think we all do.

I'd kinda like to suggest all APS athletes meet somewhere in the middle of the city, maybe at Del Norte or Sandia, and everyone can just throw their masks into a pile in some open space so we can start a giant bonfire. Hell, I'll show up, too.😂

Best thing I learned today: Josh Riordan, a freshman for Sandia Prep, pitched 6 1/3 scoreless innings of relief for the Sundevils. He did it while playing at complex named for his mother. Just awesome.

We lost Austin Denton a year ago today. I still think of him often. Terrific kid. Hope y’all will keep his family in your thoughts today.
