I wonder why the US, with all its might, money, influence and access to information, is misreading the situation in #Ethiopia.
Its blind-support for the TPLF rebel group and unwillingness to consider reality on the ground - is making America - not great.

- Members of the #Ethiopian community in #Britain protesting in London today against ‘foreign intervention’. They claim the west (mainly the US) is trying to overthrow their Government led by @AbiyAhmedAli and want to bring the TPLF back to power.
00:00 - A few weeks ago there’s real fear that #Ethiopia’s capital Addis would fall into the hands of TPLF rebels. But today, there are massive events celebrating & welcoming Diaspora Ethiopians who played a key role in preventing TPLF retaking control of Addis and country in general.
- #Ethiopian officials are more hopeful today than they were few days ago in turning the conflict in their favour. They sound confident that they will recapture Dessie and Kombolcha from TPLF ‘soon’. The people ‘have awoken’ - one of them told me.
- Breaking: #Ethiopian Govt forces have recaptured Dessie and Kombolcha - two strategic cities. I was there over a month ago and just before the TPLF rebels took control.
- A week ago, #Ethiopia's PM @AbiyAhmedAli vowed to lead the army 'from the battlefront'. Since then, his military has been claiming daily victories on the battlefield against the TPLF rebel group.
- Breaking: Unconfirmed reports say that the #Ethiopian military has captured Mekelle, capital of #Tigray. Meanwhile peace talks between the Govt and TPLF rebels happening in #SouthAfrica. Since the Govt has the upper hand in the war - Will the TPLF now accept defeat & disarm?
- Just last month, Tigrayan rebels TPLF had the momentum - seizing strategic territories & threatening to march to Addis. But #Ethiopia's PM, @AbiyAhmedAli, made the decision to go to the frontline. With his forces winning recent battles, it seems to be paying off.
- I travelled to Kobo, northern #Ethiopia to interview witnesses and relatives who say hundreds of #Amharas were massacred by #Tigrayan rebels or the TPLF. They showed me mass graves. Tune in to @Channel4News tonight at 7pm.
- #Ethiopia's PM @AbiyAhmedAli at the frontline: "What we want to see is Ethiopia that stands on our sacrifices - either to be Ethiopian or to be Ethiopia.'
