- a late Norman doorway retaining its original ironwork at Edstaston, Shropshire
- Window almost entirely made out of reused medieval cross-slabs. St Tysilio, Llandysilio (Clwyd)
- Is this skeleton… riding a coffin?! detail of the small brass to Bridget Thomas (died 1723) at Crewkerne, Somerset
- The first thing you see when entering Llangar church is this 10ft tall figure of Death, complete with grave-digging paraphernalia. What a welcome
- monument to Alice Cholmondeley (d. 1868) at Condover, Shrops She died aged 32 in childbirth & her infant daughter, also Alice, died three weeks later (shown here by her mother’s right hip) Sculpted by her husband Reginald Cholmondeley - they had married just one year earlier
- Going to go big & say that I think some of the finest carving in the land is on display at Church Stowe, Northants. Early 17th century monument to Elizabeth Lady Carey by Nicholas Stone. Got lucky with the low winter sun hitting the pure white marble like that
- Wowzers. 1st time at Great Malvern station &confronted with these killer Victorian ironwork capitals by William Forsyth. Nearly missed train
- Loud & proud mid-18th century Gothick at Brewood, Staffs Reputedly built by William Rock from the proceeds of betting on ‘Speedwell’, a horse owned by the Duke of Bolton There’s a Chinese-Chippendale staircase, original fireplaces, doors & cupboards(!) within apparently
- On holiday in York & family miffed as to why I am so *fixated* on having lunch specifically at ASK Italian No real reason of course, but as an aside it happens to be in the Assembly Rooms designed by Lord Burlington - built 1730s (received the all knowing look from my wife…)
- Horses living the high life at Peover Hall in Cheshire - 1650s stables complete with decorative plaster ceilings(!)
