When you stop to think about how stupid, how utterly and bafflingly stupid, it is for the A’s to leave Oakland to play in a minor league park in Sacramento for at least three years in the increasingly less likely hope of someday being in Las Vegas, it really staggers the mind.

It seems to come down to this: The baseball owners, who have made billions and been given sweetheart leases and absurd tax breaks and the legal freedom to run a monopoly, are unwilling to give back even a little to their communities and support the very game that they represent.

For 15 years, I wrote sports columns in Kansas City. The Royals were never good. The Chiefs never won a playoff game. The Royals had no plan. The Chiefs couldn't develop a quarterback. ... And it is now clear that the problem, all along, was me.

I cannot for the life of me understand why baseball has made such Barry Bonds such a pariah but ARod is bleeping everywhere representing the game.

I so thoroughly despise every one of baseball's unwritten rules with a big lead, but this might be the dumbest of them all. Just put in a mercy rule and shut the games down once a team gets a nine-run lead if you're already going to tell players to stop playing.
The Padres were not pleased with Mauricio Dubon bunting for a base hit with a nine-run lead and it looks like Giants manager Gabe Kapler agrees

The best reporters I’ve known are happy to look dumb in order to get great answers. I once asked Billy Williams the difference between a curveball and slider and he gave me the greatest 20 minute answer ever. On Twitter that would have been Williams 1, Me 0.

Every pitcher tried to imitate him, no hitter wanted to face him, and everybody liked him. RIP Roy Halladay

I’m sorry, MLB can’t just ignore this problem — certainly not with hitters across the league batting .230.
Why even bring a bat to the plate?....

This is Buttercup, maybe 3 years old, attacked by another dog, almost died, had surgery, led to infection, almost died, has heartworms but recovering, and now, she's a member of the family. Buttercup and Westley, together at last. Hey @dog_rates, I'm thinking at least 13/10, no?

If this shirt said: Rope. Tree. TSA Agent. I feel pretty confident he would not be on the plane.
My brother is on a @united flight from LA to Boston and saw this guy boarding with a shirt that reads “Rope. Tree. Journalist. Some assembly required.” #thread
