00:00- Excited to announce that following the 2018 season, I’ll be joining the Seattle Mariners as an organizational hitting coach. Incredibly thankful for this opportunity!
- Replying to @JD_HittingWhat does “preparing accordingly” look like? Nola’s pre-game routine - After some technical work, we would replicate the starting pitcher’s release point and FB characteristics. He always wanted it to feel MORE challenging than the game - That’s why he’s scooted up here.
00:00 - Taking a look at barrel path - Some awesome video from Pastime Athletics. Check out their channel on YouTube.. Great resource. Path is pitch dependent, but all of these hitters “drop in deep”. Path is behind, inside, and up through the ball. #Direction
00:00 - Congrats to @gw_grant . Dude worked his ass off and turned himself into a completely different player over the last year. Freshman/Soph Year (Right): - .285/.373/.390 - 21.59 XBH% - 1.49 K/BB Junior Year (Left) - .330/.436/.587 - 43.42 XBH% - 0.9 K/BB #PayTheMan
00:00 - “It seems to me that if you look back on yourself a year ago and aren’t shocked by how stupid you were, you haven’t learned much.” - Ray Dalio
- Really cool Cano “feel vs. real” clip, courtesy of @RA_Parker . Love seeing the multitude of feels/swing thoughts used at the highest level. It takes what it takes! #DontJudgeMyFeels
00:00 - Velocity continues to climb. Arsenals are being optimized. Opposing hitter scouting reports are better than ever. Hitting is harder than it’s ever been. Prepare accordingly.
- “The perfect technique is the technique that disappears: it is no longer in the way. We are not conscious of it at all. We track the ball, swing the bat in rhythm, and everything else organizes itself intuitively.” #BlackoutSwings
- “I practice like a madman, but with complete detachment from the result. At the end of the day, it’s about being a craftsman- not a success story. Sit down and do your work.” - Ido Portal
- Good visual to illustrate the importance of depth and direction in the swing. Top clip is a pull side 1B, bottom clip is an oppo jack. Great hitters drop in deep, but also have the ability to continue their path through the field- their “damage zone” is both deep AND out front.
00:00 - Listening to a @ShakeyWaits podcast on vision & gaze behavior in hitting- Reminded me of this clip. Research suggests that moving fixation back & forth between near and far before hitting results in better performance by acting as a warm-up for the eyes. Very interesting!
