    I was there 1975-76. Much popular resentment over: • Foreign installed ruler • Ruler/family excesses • Western cultural shifts • Poverty (Tehran had a large visible shanty) • Large American presence, much of it military • Regime unreliability, heavy handed security More.

    Americans like me seeking solution to Iran nuclear dispute were initially skeptical of Ms. Sherman, mistakenly focused on a non-related aspect of her past. However, during JCPOA negotiation/signage, we came away filled with respect and even pride towards critical role she played.
