    Yasushi Yamaguchi (designer of Tails from the Sonic the Hedgehog series) explains how he modeled Sonic and Tails’ relationship after Piccolo and Gohan: “If it wasn’t for Dragon Ball, their relationship would’ve never existed. Thank you, Toriyama-sensei”

    以前のツイッターのポストでも連載コラムでも書きましたが、ソニック2でこの二人の関係性はピッコロと悟飯のイメージでキャラ作りしていたのですよ。 なのでドラゴンボールという作品がなければ今に至るこの二人の関係性も存在していなかったことになります。 鳥山先生本当にありがとうございました。

    Toriyama recounts his origin story: “When I quit my office job, I wasn’t planning to become a manga artist. I drifted aimlessly, until my parents asked how long I was going to goof off. Then at the coffee shop I read about a manga contest with a top prize of a million yen.”

    Masako Nozawa treasures the memory of learning that after she auditioned for Goku, Toriyama said “It’s got to be her”. Later when she and him were chatting over tea, she told him how happy she was to hear he picked her: “Yes, I know that. Since I was the one who picked you”

    May 9th is a Japanese number pun on "Goku" (May=5=Go, 9=ku). And so that's why Goku Day and Piccolo Day are the same day. This is also why Goku goes around in a jacket with 59 on it prior to the Cell Games.

    Piccolo VA Toshio Furukawa learned of Toriyama’s death from his manager. He was the second to be told, after Nozawa: “My first thought was, how did Mako-san feel? DB is her life’s work, and Goku her other self, even more so than Piccolo is for me, right?!”
