The amount of people who think I'm seething is honestly kind of funny. We talk about how Imperium fans are fragile, and there is truth to this, but then you offer mild and measured critique of an art piece and they freak out just like SM fans. 🧵

They're not evil just cause. They evolved to take advantage of the kindness of their prey (humans) and are incredibly sociopathic as a species. They don't form social connections, have friendships, etc etc.

Finally put my finger on why I dislike this piece despite it being good on a technical level. It's spiteful. Resentful. Rage bait-y. It's meant to get people pissed at it. It takes the focus away from the scene because the scene is foundationally ridiculous with basic knowledge

The funniest thing is calling Astartes "Space Cops" because even a shallow examination of SMs shows they're not cops whatsoever, but a transhuman warrior caste with large amounts of independence from central authority. They're more like Knight Orders then cops.

A consistent theme throughout Frieren is the importance of our bonds with one another, especially friendship and relationships. Demons exist, narratively speaking, to emphasize the importance of these relationships through creatures which abuse and cannot have them.

I don't think it would be as bad if it was a crisis battlesuit killing a Marine (Would be cool tbh). But it wouldn't be as bait worthy. The purpose of the art is to make people angry, possibly humiliate the opposing side (Space Marine fans). It's meant to "punch up."

It also works with it too. I'd argue that it reinforces the theme (the bonds we make with one another) and that you oppose purely on political grounds rather than artistic grounds.

The actual, physical differences between the two don't matter. It's not about respecting one another. It's about humiliating the other side with an art piece that the artist *knows* isn't "realistic" but doesn't care.

The focal point isn't "Look at this Tau doing cool Tau things." It's "Look at this Tau utterly dominating and humiliating this Space Marine in close quarters." The worst part is that if it was Aun Shi there would be less outrage.
