I am reconnected to the internet in #Havana, #Cuba. Seems that international media reports on the disturbances here have been massively exaggerated and manipulated. There has been calm here (just one incident) since Monday. I will be writing an account soon. Cuba is hurting.

Connecting in a Wifi park in #Havana. It’s calm here now, but daily life for Cubans is tough due to shortages of basic goods. Their suffering & frustration is the intended result of 243 new measures introduced since 2017 to tighten #US sanctions & Biden’s refusal to reverse them.

The 243 new sanctions & measures imposed by the Trump adminstration are designed to suffocate the population, the social media war aims to generate protests. It is the same #US Cuba policy articulated in 1960 by Lestor Mallory to cause hunger and desperation. #EndUSblockade!

After the devastating fire in #Matanzas, #Cuba, I donated to the Cuban government's emergency fund. My online payment was confirmed (took a screenshot) but a few days later I was told by @HSBC_UK that the payment was blocked because "the whole world sanctions Cuba." Wrong! (1/3)

Cuban news just exposed a video circulating of a man apparently being killed in his home by Cuban police. The man was arrested at his home for violent disorder & footage shows him walking out calmly in handcuffs. He was interviewed today. The blood stained floor was a lie.

Images from the mass rally today in #Havana, Cuba in defence of the Revolution & socialism and calling for an an to the #USblockade and the social media campaign against #Cuba.

Social media is full of photos of #FidelCastro today, to mark his 99th birthday. This is one of my favourites, taken by his son, Alex Castro Soto.

My opinion piece in @guardian about the recent protests in #Cuba and economic asphyxiation resulting from the #UnitedStates blockade against the Cuban people.

In fact, @HSBC_UK it is illegal to apply unilateral US sanctions of #Cuba to British citizens/entities. The same applies in Europe and Canada. Here's the article I wrote for @jacobin that explains how and why the US blockade of Cuba is an act of war. jacobin.com/2022/03/us-blo… (2/3)

"A brilliant and original work" said journalist and historian Richard Gott about my new book "We Are Cuba: How a Revolutionary People Have Survived in a Post Soviet World" published by @yalepress @YaleBooks. Check it out: yalebooks.co.uk/display.asp?k=…

Once you have read about how the #USblockade of #Cuba obstructs Cuba's access to world trade, markets, investment and even humanitarian aid, please check out the '1 cent for Cuba' campaign which seeks to make the US blockade of Cuba unenforceable. 1c4cuba.eu (3/3).

On my way to a mass mobilization at the antiimperialist tribune outside the US embassy in Havana. 'The streets belong to the Cuban revolutionaries' said Cuban President Miguel Diaz Camel. Thousand already there.

I am very sad to hear that Dr Orlando Borrego, deputy to Ernesto Che Guevara, died this morning in Cuba. Borrego has an extraordinary history, serving as a first lieutenant at Guevara’s side in the Rebel Army, as his deputy in the Department of Industrialisation in INRA...
