Reduce the risk of CMV:
👶Don't share food, utensils, drinks, straws or toothbrushes with young children
👶Do not put a pacifier in your mouth
👶Avoid kissing children on the mouth
👶Wash your hands frequently
If you are pregnant and have concerns about CMV, talk to your doctor.
About one out of every 200 babies is born with CMV infection, and one in 5 of those babies will have long-term health problems like hearing loss, vision loss and cerebral palsy. Pregnant women with young children, or who work with young children, are at high risk of catching CMV.
It can be dangerous when a pregnant woman develops an active infection because it can lead to serious birth defects and developmental disabilities if it's passed along to baby.
👶 Cytomegalovirus (CMV) looks intense, but it doesn't have to be scary. CMV is a common virus that affects people of all ages. In fact, over half of adults have been infected with CMV by age 40 without symptoms! 🧵
