Not a Harvard, but MIT CS Professor here. I’m sorry you are experiencing all this. We’re in the same town. I’d be happy to meet you and listen and chat with you. Please feel free to reach out by email whenever you can. My best.

- 1. A score of 1.5% (0.5/30!) on an electrical eng midterm at IITM (5th sem). Somehow pulled off a decent grade thanks to the final. 2. Much much worse, failed my PhD oral prelim exam at Berkeley. Retook it, passed, but stressful! It’s not how you fail, but how you fight thru it.Flex your lowest academic low score. To remind us that almost everyone fails at some point in life but it isn't the end of the road. Just a memory in the end. Mine was 27/100 in Engineering Math 2, just a year after I'd scored 99 in 12th boards. Much needed kick in my butt.
- My next-door MIT colleague was on Jeopardy last week. And by “on”, I mean she was on a question, a “double jeopardy” one at that!
- TFW when your paper with your students is rejected because “Reference [6] already did this”, and you find that [6] is 20 years old... and that you wrote [6]! And no, [6] wasn’t even close to solving it, in fact leaving it as an open problem. Thanks, reviewer A!
- Truly awful that the Trump administration is threatening to shut down the OPT program for qualified graduating foreign students. This will dramatically reduce American competitiveness by rejecting exceptionally talented people.
- My college daughter is finally appreciating my (only) professorial skills — the deft ability to help her edit and linespace-hack a 2-page doc into a one-pager with three full lines to spare!
- I’m not a “fellow MIT grad”. I didn’t think I’d get in, so didn’t apply to MIT! It happened to work out for me on the end, but it’s important to show up; you win 0% of the games you don’t show up to. It’s a lesson
- My mother, Professor Radha Balakrishnan, has been a lifelong inspiration for me — my first and best teacher ever! This short essay tells the story of her torturous path in theoretical physics, trying to overcome gender and societal barriers. lnkd.in/dNrJjgu #inspiration
- “See you at the Gabba, mate”, taunted Paine to Ashwin. Yes, we did, Mr. Paine, yes, we did! #AUSvIND
- Deeply honored, grateful, and thankful to many for the Marconi Prize. My gratitude is in this LinkedIn post…
- I had a productive and impactful time in graduate school at Berkeley with my research and PhD thesis, but this here may have been my most significant accomplishment during that time! Recovered from a stash in the attic. Need to add to my CV! #profcrickettwitter
