1600 families connected to this remote hydro minigrid in the mountains of southern Malawi. They have 50kW of stranded energy that we are testing out as a new Bitcoin mining site.

We’ve been working with mini-grid hydro generators in Kenya on how to use their excess capacity for Bitcoin mining, which also significantly reduces the cost of power to the local community.

We’ve got 32 miners running now in Malawi, a nice small site that has 3 powerhouses and provides electricity to 1890 households. We balance out the grid by using their stranded energy.
