1/2: I planted one of 71 cherry trees in Chinatown's Sien Lok Park.
Every politician loves holding a shovel. It shows progress, something is being built, a new chapter for a community or business. These trees are building Chinatown's beauty even further.
2/2: Woman in gold dress is Consul General Emma R. Sarne and gentleman in white coat that I'm speaking with is Deputy Consul Victorio M. Dimagiba, Jr.
The event also featured AB Speaker of the Leg Ric McIver, Premier Smith, MLA K. Ganley, Assoc Min M. Yaseen & MP Blake Richards.
The Conservative Caucus met reps of the Filipino community. Today, we observe Filipino Day/Philippine Independence Day. June 12 marks the declaration of independence from Spanish rule in 1898. A shout out to the many Filipino Cdns in #CalgaryCentre.

1/2: In speaking to Bill C-20, which creates Build Canada Homes, I pointed out both the escalating cost of govt housing programs with little to show for it, and the escalating cost to consumers not only for their homes but for their share of the cost of servicing Canada's debt.
2/2: What do we get for that? Even government-backed analysis shows that the program would deliver only 5,200 homes per year, a tiny fraction of the 430,000 to 480,000 homes per year needed to bring affordability back to 2019 levels.

1/2: C‑20 does not address the structural cost drivers in the housing system. Instead, it proposes govt expand its footprint. Build Canada Homes would have sweeping powers in financing, land acquisition & development, and come with a price tag of another $13 billion over 5 years.
2/2: All of this is within a $100‑billion‑plus national housing strategy that is not building the number of homes Canadians actually need.
Instead of focusing on why that is happening, this bill takes us in the wrong direction.
1/2: I spoke on Bill C-20 which proposes to create YET ANOTHER housing bureaucracy.
We already have overlapping funds, loan programs and agencies, and now there is a brand new Crown corporation being added to the mix.

I attended an Operetta performed by the students at Elbow Park School to showcase the school's 100th anniversary. Thanks to Principal Jason Fech for the invitation, and to all of the students for their outstanding performances!

I was interviewed last evening on CBC's As It Happens about my and Leader Pierre Poilievre's speeches urging Albertans not to give up on Canada. Let's fix what needs to be fixed, but let's not give up.
