The geopolitical impacts of COVID policy will be seen in a decade or less. Countries that prevented infection will have healthy populations. Countries that did not will be incapacitated by chronic disease and disability.

- If anyone tells you that "getting infected to prevent infection" (herd immunity) is good, and measures to prevent infection are bad ("immunity debt") it is incorrect and goes against the principles of public health. And sounds ridiculous unless

- The pandemic is already reducing living standards globally. In a post-pandemic world we face lower life expectancy, less access to healthcare, higher cost of living, greater job insecurity and the loss of many comforts we took for granted. Sad to see so many ppl cheering this on.

- Went to shopping centre yesterday - hardly anyone was wearing a mask - compared to ~40% prior to ending of mandated isolation. People think COVID is over. Sending the message "pandemic is over" explains the poor booster rates - yet another missed opportunity for COVID control.

- Is the fatal pneumonia in Argentina a mutated #SARSCoV2 that evades current testing? Or a new virus? Is there mild/asymptomatic infection that is being missed, thereby allowing spread, just as occurred in Wuhan?
