The only appropriate role for a health insurance company is to pay bills, not to "manage" care. The only appropriate decision-makers in health care are patients and their doctors.

I have treated over 40,000 patients since the 1980s, and I have seen medicine change from a compassion-based profession into a corporate greed-driven business.

I've hired more lawyers in my life than I could ever have imagined. That said, I learned one very important thing. The attorney-client privilege is absolute and sacrosanct. Lawyers take it VERY seriously. Nobody--absolutely nobody--messes with it. How did we medics go so wrong?

I strongly advise friends around the world not to do what the US has done, putting for-profit corporations in charge of health care. It has been an unmitigated failure.

I had a professor when I was a resident doctor tell me "You never tell a patient you don't know." I STRONGLY disagree. When we admit we don't know, we are showing humility and honesty. Then we can tell the patient we'll do research on the matter, get a second opinion, etc. #Meded

Doctors are sick and tired of having our practice of medicine dictated to us by a bunch of bean counters!
