For deontology's sake, and just in case it's not obvious what my beliefs are. We are on the path to human extinction from superintelligence. At our current pace, it's very likely that we hit a point of no return by 2027. It is plausible that we hit one sooner.

If a job gets automated, it is painful for the people who get fired. But they theoretically can move on to other jobs. If people get automated, there's no other job. In that world, there's no place to where people can move. If you want to reason about unemployment, the problem

Anthropic's AGI timelines are 2-3 years, and OpenAI is working on ASI. I think many can now acknowledge that we are nearing a fast take-off. If that's you, I suggest you consider banning AGI research. We are not going to solve alignment in time at that pace.

America winning used to be very correlated with Americans winning. But the more the US economy is driven by outlier talent and AI, the more they could decouple. To be trusted, the immigrant-heavy tech right needs a clear vision for how economic growth benefits typical Americans.

This is another psy-op. As far as I know, "AI Alignment" was specifically coined by Eliezer to talk about superintelligence. Other people then used it for current AIs. To bake in their assumption that "alignment" of weaker systems would translate to superintelligence.

people should resurrect the term superalignment when you say “alignment is unsolved”, you sound kind of like an ideological hack to anyone that actually interacts with models alignment is solved* superalignment is unsolved (as are supercapabilities)

One might disagree with extinction risks from AI. But the US AI coordinator here just ignores them. He treats an open source model from China as a reason for rescinding already weak AI regulations, rather than an urge to push for internatial treaties asap. Sad!

DeepSeek R1 shows that the AI race will be very competitive and that President Trump was right to rescind the Biden EO, which hamstrung American AI companies without asking whether China would do the same. (Obviously not.) I’m confident in the U.S. but we can’t be complacent.
