Gov. Beshear: I want to thank all of the teachers who are doing all they can to help their students, even though they can't be together with them.

Gov. Beshear: For anyone calling this coronavirus response "overkill," I'd have them look at Seattle. In Kentucky, we are in the tops in the country in heart disease, lung cancer. Other states are taking similar steps. My job isn't to make folks happy, my job is to save lives.

Senate ed committee: Lawrence Co. Superintendent Robbie Fletcher says there is one pot of money - the state budget - if you take one dime away from the budget and give it to charter schools, you are taking it away from public schools.

Observation: Is it just me or does Interim Education Commissioner Kevin Brown look just about as exhausted as Gov. Andy Beshear after providing cool, calm, collected leadership for the past several weeks in the mounting COVID-19 crisis? Thank you, Commissioner!

Gov. Beshear: Shoutout to Kentucky public schools for all they have done to feed 4,656,897 meals to 230,000 children since March shutdown. To everyone out there, thank you for all you do throughout the year.

Gov. Beshear: Q: Are you worried that your efforts are being turned into a political issue? A: I'm way beyond politics at this point. What happens to me in the future because of my decisions, I don't care. I've acted to save lives. I'd trade re-election to save lives any day.

Commentary: Kentucky partisan politics now has run off four straight ed commissioners. Regardless of feelings about them, if you think this trend aids children to learn, teachers to teach, principals, superintendents and school boards to lead and serve, you are woefully mistaken.

Gov. Beshear: Schools have ceased there in-school activities, extended to April 20. We will evaluate as we go to see if we need to close longer. Our schools have been incredible. How they've come together in almost every district to deliver meals is nothing short of patriotic!

Gov. Beshear: It's wrong if funding for all-day kindergarten and charter schools are being tied together. To use education of a five-year-old as a bargaining chip to get something you want is wrong. We have a morale and constitutional obligation for quality education for children

Gov. Beshear: Shout out to Bowling Green Ind. High for providing personal protective equipment to local health care providers, followed by general hat tip to teachers for all they are doing.
