getting very tired of people saying that loli/shotacon is โ€œnormalโ€ here in Japan and isnโ€™t seen as weird stop treating Japan like itโ€™s a place where every anime sub niche is accepted and enjoyed by most people here in Japan when most people do not even take anime so seriously

literally none of that is appropriation? participating in another culture is cultural exchange and appreciation appropriation = butchering original HORRIFICALLY for profit and/or personal gain with no respect for the original culture
I love appropriating Japanese culture: speak Japanese, do judo, wear a yukata to Japanese festivals, opt for chopsticks. Never heard a complaint from a Japanese person, always from a self-righteous gai-gai. I might even take some ikebana classes just to watch you seethe more

as a mixed Japanese woman who has a professional license in kimono, Iโ€™m going to remind you all that being dressed in ethnic clothing BY SOMEONE OF THAT CULTURE, is NOT appropriation

if Japanese society as a whole is collectively SOOOOOOOO committed to the safety of children then why is this message posted on the first floor of my building? gee, maybe thatโ€™s because Japan is a country like any other, and shouldnโ€™t be put on a pedestal as if itโ€™s a utopia?

In Japan, kids can run errands and commute to school alone at a young age. Why? Because Japan has decided that children in Japan are the collective responsibility of society to keep safe. Thatโ€™s the choice Japan has made. What choice has AMERICA made?

For those of you who donโ€™t know, I am a Miko (Shrine Maiden) in training! I completed my intermediate level at Miko School, and I hope to (finally!) finish my training this year I get asked questions about Shinto religion sometimes, so here is a basic thread!

Dear US Military: The oath you swore was *not* to blindly obey the President of the United States. The oath you swore was to protect the US Constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic. Domestic. So do the right thing.

the angry weebs in my replies who canโ€™t handle the fact that most Japanese people arenโ€™t super into anime remind me of the same weebs who try to move to Japan and end up leaving after only 2 or 3 months they figure out average Japanese people arenโ€™t as otaku as they are and go

real talk I met a group of people who said they were going to Africa to give medicine and bring the word of God, and when I asked โ€œwhat if they donโ€™t convertโ€ they straight up said they stop giving the medicine
But are yโ€™all ready for this conversation โ˜•๏ธ

acknowledging that feudal Japan was extremely brutal also requires acknowledging that samurai were assholes doesn't matter what country or culture it is: ALL people in power with weapons and class advantage are assholes, and the samurai were no exception, "honor" or not
What unpopular opinion can put you in this position??

I explained to my students what weebs are, how many of them fetishize Japanese women as waifus and ignore that Japanese Women Are People, and explained how many of them come to Japan, learn Japan is Not Anime, then leave Japan Their responses were very interesting

    Replying to @FujikakeRin
fun fact for you people who love to speak about Japan like you're an authority when you don't live here and you aren't Japanese: 70% of Japanese people don't consume anime on a regular basis, nor do they give a shit the anime that DO make it into average Japanese lives are huge
