I strongly believe that a healthy media diet consists of rich thematic stories that pull back the curtain on humanity, along with escapist popcorn entertainment.
Godzilla provides both of these, always has, and that is why the franchise rules.
Sydney Sweeney reveals her favorite movie of 2023 was Godzilla Minus One.
"I was shocked by how good it was," she said. "Monster movies aren't usually my thing but I really dug it. I was bawling like a baby at the end, which I didn't expect. And Godzilla was so scary!
I'd never argue Ford is super compelling or anything, but people really over sell how bad he is. He's not complex, he does his duty without complaint. He puts himself in harms way and saves others when he doesn't have to.
He mirrors Godzilla in this way.
"Godzilla X Kong has no emotional stakes to engage with."
I'm sorry the story of an old lonely monster connecting with and saving an abused child didn't connect with you 😔
This is the issue with the Jurassic series. Its premise is constraining by nature. Deviate too much, it loses its identity. Do what's expected, you're just spinning in circles. No originality. The snake eating its own tail.
Jurassic Park was never meant to become a franchise.
So safe to say we're gonna get a sequel to Rebirth considering its doing great.
My question is where tf are they gonna take the story after this?
Like, I have no idea where this franchise can go here without rebooting it lmao.
