Yesterday at the Triple B roundup in Nevada a brave stallion escaped the wings of the trap, jumping the jute fencing. He took to the range, running hard and fast -- never looking back. Photo by Nenah Demunster

The BLM has approved a plan to reduce the wild horse population in Nevada’s Lahontan HMA—from 518 horses down to just 7-10. That’s not a typo. The HMA is 9,687 acres surrounded by over 304,000 acres, yet the BLM claims it can only sustain a single-digit wild horse population. ‼️

Yesterday, contractors tried 6X to push a herd of approx 17 Onaqui mustangs into the trap site, but each time the horses, lead by a defiant stallion, evaded capture. No horses were captured. ❤️ wildhor.se/OnaquiRoundup

These pictures were taken recently at Salt Wells Creek—home to Wyoming's rare wild Curlies, whose population faced possible eradication if the BLM's plans had prevailed. The BLM could still threaten these iconic horses, and we need to be ready to defend them.

In the cool, calm of dusk, bachelor stallions Komodo, Cohen, and Earl make their way from water. These mustangs are alert, in tune, and always aware of their surroundings. In this remote segment of Utah, our fertility control program is helping to keep them wild and free ☀️

On Day 3 of The Adobe Town WY roundup, a stallion broke free from the trap and was relentlessly pursued by a helicopter. Against the odds, he escaped—yet instead of fleeing for safety, he returned to the trap’s edge, risking recapture as he called out for his family. 💔

The two things that are most important to a wild horse are family and freedom.

When we reached these mustangs from a kill lot in Alabama, they were in rough shape -- neglected, traumatized and very thin. Today, they're back home in the West.
