Once again, the world is getting a glimpse into Texas government—and it ain't pretty.

Not watching the debate but following it on here is like dying from cancer from second-hand smoke

Texas is 48th in mental-health funding. Greg Abbott has been governor for eight years, plenty of time to do something.
NEW: Gov. Greg Abbott in an interview with Fox News emphasized mental health in response to the Allen mall shooting. "People want a quick solution," Abbott said. "The long-term solution here is to address the mental health issue." wfaa.com/article/news/l…

More than 10,000 night owls, graveyard shift workers, and just generally busy folks took advantage of 24-hour voting in Harris County, including this dude who showed up in a welding mask & said he was motivated to vote b/c voter suppression ticked him off texasmonthly.com/politics/harri…

Greg Abbott, who is thinking about running for president of the USA, is holding his State of the State address at a corporate site in San Marcos, instead of the Capitol. Cellphones are banned and guests were originally expected to sign non-disclosure agreements. No press allowed.

ERCOT for sure has a lot of blame to bear for this crisis, but the fundamental feature of Texas's power grid is deregulation. We went further and faster than any other state with turning things over to the market. That's on policymakers.

. @GregAbbott_TX now 20 minutes late for his press conference where he's going to talk about his border blockade. He's appearing alongside Samuel Alejandro García Sepúlveda, the governor of Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Fun fact while we wait: Garcia is 34 and is working on his third PhD.

What, I thought we were in favor of free speech on campus? Or does that only apply if you hold an opinion on foreign policy in line with the governor?
Arrests being made right now & will continue until the crowd disperses. These protesters belong in jail. Antisemitism will not be tolerated in Texas. Period. Students joining in hate-filled, antisemitic protests at any public college or university in Texas should be expelled.

Greg Abbott over the years: Allen: "unspeakable tragedy" Cleveland: "senseless act" Uvalde: "senseless crime" White Settlement: "evil act" Midland-Odessa: "senseless & cowardly attack" El Paso: "heinous & senseless act" Santa Fe: "act of evil" Sutherland Springs: "horrific act"

Greg Abbott and the Legislature desperately want everyone to blame ERCOT, but ERCOT is mostly just a traffic cop for the grid. This market was deregulated and designed by the Legislature and maintained and promoted by politicians. They are the deciders.

One of the many problems with one-party rule in Texas is that our leaders rarely face any accountability. They answer only to their donor and the far right. Texas tough lmao

Uvalde families asked the TX Legislature to raise the age to purchase semiautomatic rifles from 18 to 21. The bill wasn't given a hearing until April 19 and they were kept waiting for 12+ hours to testify. The bill is pending in committee; Mon. is the last day it can be advanced.

New rule: If you want to be president (or governor for that matter), you don't get to live in a hermetically sealed safe space.
