- Greg Abbott, who is thinking about running for president of the USA, is holding his State of the State address at a corporate site in San Marcos, instead of the Capitol. Cellphones are banned and guests were originally expected to sign non-disclosure agreements. No press allowed.
- ERCOT for sure has a lot of blame to bear for this crisis, but the fundamental feature of Texas's power grid is deregulation. We went further and faster than any other state with turning things over to the market. That's on policymakers.

- Greg Abbott and the Legislature desperately want everyone to blame ERCOT, but ERCOT is mostly just a traffic cop for the grid. This market was deregulated and designed by the Legislature and maintained and promoted by politicians. They are the deciders.

- Uvalde families asked the TX Legislature to raise the age to purchase semiautomatic rifles from 18 to 21. The bill wasn't given a hearing until April 19 and they were kept waiting for 12+ hours to testify. The bill is pending in committee; Mon. is the last day it can be advanced.
