Dear @BBC & @OnlyConnectQuiz. We were disappointed and shocked to see scars described as “marks of shame” on your show recently. There is #NoShame in having a scar. 🧵(1/2)
Our campaigner John points at his scar, the words written on his hand says "no shame"
Our campaigner Jenny reveals scar on abdomen, on her hand "no shame" is written.

So many films, like Batman, use disfigurement and visible difference as a shorthand for villainy. It’s an outdated trope and perpetuates the myth that you can spot ‘evil’ via appearance. We need more positive representations of visible difference on screen.
Batman villains are like “I’m just like YOU except I’m EVIL because I have a FACIAL DISFIGUREMENT.” It’s fucked up!
