Recently met a financial advisor at a holiday party. He was bragging that he could meet a new customer and an hour later-he was trusted with their life savings.
I explained to him occasionally at work, I meet someone and a few minutes later I have my finger up their rectum.

- Another nursing home stroke code -rushed to the ED for "abnormal speech" After stat CT, labs & neuro consult, astute nurse hastened complete resolution of symptoms by a drink of water & allowing the pt to put in his dentures
- Student medic in awe over field resuscitation done by senior paramedic. "Doc you should have seen him. it was amazing. Out of the car, lines and intubated. It just took him 10 minutes!" I smiled. "No Padawan. It took him 20 years"
- Took my 94 year old father-in-law to the doctors. Sat back and watched his eighty-year-old internist do a thorough physical and history. No labs or imaging this visit. Imagine.... medical care actually guided by just physical exam and history. A vanishing art.

- He wasnt saved by a trauma system or an elaborate stroke ambulance not by a cardiologist & cath lab or a helicopter He was saved by a basic, simple skill that, IMO, should be taught to every grade school student on this planet #LearnCPR
- Elderly farmer was stung approx 50-60 times while plowing. Finished his work, then was brought to the ED by family 2 hrs later. Near anaphylaxis He tells me: "Doc, not sure if you know this.. but your average yellowjacket is considerably faster than a John Deere tractor"
- 7 y/o boy brought into the ED by his mother for rather profuse diarrhea. I asked him-what is the worst part about your symptoms? " I will never, ever trust a fart again"
- I was not getting along with an elderly pt in my ED She & her daughter informed me "We would like a proper Dr,...Like that nice looking young man over there in a coat and tie. Is he taking pts?" Dont know but Ill introduce you. This is Dr Jenkins, our Coroner/Medical examiner.
- On a memorable Easter Sunday ED shift many years ago -After an incicent with a pneumatic framing tool, I removed a nail from the hand of a young Mexican carpenter named Jesus. Mic drop
- 60 y/o farmer. "Jammed" his ankle 4 days ago jumping off a tractor. "Its starting to really bother me when I walk on it for awhile" CT Scan:
- Overheard a 30 year paramedic talking to an intern.. "Whether you realize it or not - the shit we do, day in day out, is incredibly sacred work" Amen brother. ๐
