Well this is a rather unusual turn of events. This 6th form college dropout is being awarded an honorary doctorate from @UAL today! Beyond proud and honoured to be invited to talk to the graduating artists on their special day. 👨🏽‍🎓
We're excited to honour theatre director and DJ @Excalibah today - determined to make theatre universally accessible by working to promote minority groups as theatre leaders, makers and consumers: bit.ly/2XFcLH7 #UALGrads

Just been attacked on the train home. Thank you so much to the man who came to my rescue and stepped in to stop me being attacked. “You Muslim cunt” that’s what I got. Thank you again to all the people on the train who stood up for me.

But I didn't, and to all my Muslim mates... I'm sorry I didn't stand up for you in that moment. Next time I hope to have the strength to, inshallah.

I'm also really sad that my first response to him as I took my headphones out to assess why he was standing over me and ranting was... "but I'm not even Muslim" because what the F*** does it even matter what I am, or what a Muslim is. I should have lied and said YES I AM SIT DOWN

Thank you everyone, your support is so very pacifying. I’m scared. I’m sad. Im@fucking angry. I’m also really glad that people stood up to support me in the moment. I’m now on the phone to the British transport police - who I’m fairly certain will treat me like a criminal.

Heya Coco - not sure I fully understand how the partner is being introduced into the conversation but I often mention my partner / child in lots of conversations as they’re like 80% of my life.

We had open auditions for The Wiz yesterday. One candidate got quite tearful as she entered the room and saw a panel in which she felt reflected. 6 out of 8 people on the panel were of African / Caribbean heritage. Be the change. @hopemilltheatr1 @ahamidprods @CNP_London

My mother is white. At points my childhood was like this. It had nothing to do with skin colour. It had everything to do with class & poverty.

Rachael Baptist - a Black Irish woman who performed a highly praised Juliet in the 1700s.
Rachael Baptist was a Black Irish singer apparently born in Ireland in the 18th century. On her stage debut, she was described as an Irish native, and enjoyed a successful singing career in Irish and English theatres, assembly halls and...

If you want to shout THEATRE at OD on twitter. Go for it. If you want to sob in a corner. Go for it. If you want to write to your MP. Go for it. If you want to mobilise and strategise. Go for it. But..... maybe don’t police other people’s anger/grief.

Gosh there are a lot of ‘working class’ folk in theatre with a private school education.

I once asked an officer who was detaining me illegally (facts - I got a letter of apology from him later) if I could speak to his superior. He turned off his chest camera and said “I can make this very difficult for you, do you want to see your kid tonight?”
We know we have an urgent duty to do more to protect women and girls. Here are some questions you can ask if you have concerns about an officer. If you feel you are in imminent danger, always dial 999.

If you’re anti-woke. You’re anti-Black. Woke is not some millennial definition of trendy, or hip, or hippy liberal. It simply means being alert to the systematic racism oppressing Black people. That’s it. Stay woke.
